Meet Your Local Experts

Here’s a quick snapshot of the amazing providers you’ll hear from in this monthly wellness series. Each month, we’ll dive deeper into topics we’re passionate about, and how we can support you through life’s big and small challenges.

Myriam Sanchez, LCPC, Couples & Perinatal Mental Health Therapist

Myriam Sanchez, LCPC,

Couples & Perinatal Mental Health Therapist

You’ve probably heard of “postpartum depression” but did you know it’s just one part of what we now call Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs)? These disorders can show up during pregnancy or in the year after giving birth, and they’re common. In fact, 1 in 7 women and 1 in 10 men experience PMADs. This can include anxiety, OCD, rage, and more, not just sadness. Even more common than PMADs is baby blues, affecting up to 80% of new mothers in the first 4 weeks after delivery. Baby blues is often confused with postpartum depression, but it is a much milder and short-lived mood disturbance. Connecting with a perinatal therapist during pregnancy or postpartum can be a good idea to seek proactive support during this vulnerable time for new parents!

Lauren Lucas, LCSW, Trauma & Anxiety

Lauren Lucas, LCSW,

Trauma & Anxiety

Ever feel like you’re stuck in survival mode? Chronic trauma or distress can cause the autonomic nervous system to get "stuck" in either a state of hyperarousal (fight or flight) or hypoarousal (freeze). This can lead to symptoms like hypervigilance, anxiety, numbness, and insomnia among others. It can also over-activate the amygdala, leading you to feel like a threat is present even when it isn't. The good news? Neuroplasticity - the brain's ability to rewire itself. This means that with the right therapeutic support, these changes can be reversed and new, adaptive, and healthy neural pathways can be created. In other words, your brain can heal and learn safety and calm again.

Dr. Dana Kalombo, Acupuncture & Pain Relief

Dr. Dana Kalombo,

Acupuncture & Pain Relief

Dr. Kalombo is on a mission to help Glen Ellyn’s active seniors and wellness seekers feel their best. Whether it’s chronic pain, hormonal shifts, or recovering from injury, her gentle acupuncture treatments help restore balance so you can get back to doing what you love. This all happens through the precise placement of fine, painless needles, which taps into the body’s innate self-healing abilities. Dr. Kalombo knows that a lot of her new patients come into their first treatment feeling a bit nervous. She takes her time explaining that an acupuncture needle is 10 time smaller than the average diameter of an injection needle, and 2 times larger than the average diameter of a human hair, making the insertion cause very little discomfort.

Kristen Powell, LCPC, Grief, Life Transitions & Moms

Kristen Powell, LCPC,

Grief, Life Transitions & Moms

Loss. Change. Letting go. These are things Kristen helps women move through with compassion and clarity. Whether you're grieving a loved one, navigating menopause, or parenting a child in treatment, Fun fact about grief: it does not follow a linear path. Most people don't experience the 5 stages of grief in order, or even experience all of them. Grief is highly individual, often coming in waves, and can resurface years later in unexpected ways.  Research shows that simply being able to talk openly about grief, without judgment or pressure to "move on" can significantly ease the emotional burden over time. Kristen does exactly that, she offers a safe space to feel your feelings - without pressure to "move on."

Eva Cozzi, LCSW, Trauma, ADHD & Relationship Issues

Eva Cozzi, LCSW,

Trauma, ADHD & Relationship Issues

Eva works with people navigating the long shadow of abuse, especially emotional abuse, which is more common than physical or sexual abuse. From gaslighting, isolation, trauma bonding to coercive control, these wounds run deep and are more common than we think. Nearly half of all women (48.4%) and men (48.8%) in the United States report experiencing psychological aggression by an intimate partner in their lifetime.  Eva’s trauma-informed work helps individuals and families rebuild trust, confidence, and safety, at their own pace.

Laura Jaramillo, LCPC, Eating Disorders, Anxiety & Life Transitions

Laura Jaramillo, LCPC,

Eating Disorders, Anxiety & Life Transitions

Laura shares that what looks like “just anxiety” is often the tip of the iceberg. Underneath the racing thoughts and overwhelm, there’s usually a deeper story, like past trauma, feeling not good enough, or growing up walking on eggshells. Some people have learned to over-function to feel safe, while others shut down or feel everything all at once. You don’t have to have a “big traumatic event” for your nervous system to be stuck in survival mode. In working with Laura, clients gently start to unwind these patterns so they can feel calm in their body and more at home in their life.

We’re So Glad You’re Here

At Cohera, we believe in a village approach to wellness. We’re colleagues, co-creators, and most importantly, humans who care deeply about helping you thrive.

We hope you’ll come back each month to hear more from us. Next time, we’ll dig deeper into perinatal mental health, stress recovery, or how acupuncture works (spoiler: it’s not scary, we promise!). There’s a whole world of healing waiting for you - and we can’t wait to walk alongside you.

Stay well and see you next month,

Myriam
